The Calgary Catholic
School District’s Off-Campus Education programs are designed to help all
students recognize their special gifts, talents, and interests, and to put
education into a meaningful framework.
Our programs play a vital
role in assisting students’ transition into the workforce and post-secondary
education through their participation in out-of-class study while gaining their
high school diploma.
At St. Anne Academic
Centre we provide a variety of Off-Campus opportunities for students,
Work Experience is an individualized program where you can learn valuable employability and workplace skills, develop a strong work ethic and positive work attitudes and demonstrate regular and reliable attendance and punctuality on the job.
In Work Experience, if you are already working or volunteering you will be able to earn high school credits through your paid or volunteer work. During the school year, this work typically takes place after school and on the weekends. Credits can also be earned during the summer.
If you are interested in beginning Work Experience, you must:
- Meet with your Off-Campus Education Teacher to discuss the program and go through an orientation.
- Complete HCS3000 (an online Workplace Safety course).
- Complete an Off-Campus Education Agreement (contract). This document must be signed by you, your employer, your parent/guardian (if you are under the age of 18) and a CSSD district supervisor.
Once the Off-Campus Education Teacher has completed a Work Site visit (where they discuss the Work Experience program with your employer and learn about your work, workplace and training) you may begin to count hours, fill out timesheets and earn Work Experience credits.
In Work Experience, you can earn up to 35 credits (20 towards your first 100 credits needed to graduate). You can earn 10 credits in each level of Work Experience 15, 25 and 35 and 5 credits in Career Internship. One credit is earned for every 25 hours of work. A minimum of 75 hours (3 credits) must be worked.
Some Alberta Post-Secondary Institutions may accept Work Experience 35 (grade 12 credits) as a grade 12 course equivalent for admission. Work Experience 35 can be one of the 5 courses used to apply for the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship.
