In year three of our Champions/ Heroes Initiative, we continue to challenge our teachers, students and parents to discover the Champion and Hero in each of us – by what we say, do and think. We are asking every member of our community to recognize that true Champions and Heroes are ordinary people, doing extraordinary things. To look for the everyday champions and heroes that hide in plain sight.

As this project expands, and as we move from initiative to a culture of Heroes and Champions in our school, students and teachers have developed our ASK Theme, relating it to the three year faith theme of the district, taken from Mathew 7.7: “Ask and it will be given to you; Seek and you will find; Knock and the door will be opened to you.” Our faith, which is central to all that we do, encourages students to take the notion of Champion and Hero further, and asks the questions of, “Who are you, Who holds you up and What is your place in the world?” As a school community, we are trying to be intentional in keeping these questions in the forefront, through our curriculum and our day to day encounters with one another. We are hoping to bring a common language to our school, and by asking these questions of our students, that we are starting a journey of growth and appreciation for one another.

Throughout the year, we will continue to engage in social justice projects, community building activities, and classroom teaching to ensure that students recognize the real-life Champions and Heroes in their life. We will be bringing in guest speakers and presentations that reinforce key messages of faith, inclusiveness and awesomeness! We hope to bring you many more stories from our school of heroes in our midst and we would encourage you to speak with your child and ask them about the real-life Champions and Heroes in their lives.
