On December 10th, political cartoonist and illustrator Fred Curatolo spent the day with our grade 7 and 9 students.Fred explained to them various techniques he uses including caricature, symbolism and exaggeration to help him deliver the opinion that lies behind an effective cartoon. Students also had the chance to discuss current events and make connections between their curriculum and cartooning in the form of rough sketches for their own political cartoons. Fred Curatolo is considered one of Alberta's foremost cartoonists andhas been drawing since the age of three. Fred began serious editorial cartooning in 1982, and was first published in 1983 in the prestigious Toronto Sun and has since been featured regularly in the Edmonton Journal and St. Albert Leader.
