The role of the Diverse Learning team is to provide a wide range of supports to assist schools in providing programming for students with diverse learning needs.
Accessing support from the Diverse Learning team usually begins with the school’s School Resource Team (SRT). The SRT is the primary problem-solving vehicle. When appropriate, a SRT can access the services of the Diverse Learning team in a variety of ways. Their role is to provide support and assistance to teachers dealing with students with diverse learning needs.
Individual learning programs are delivered either in a regular classroom or in a specialized program. Students with diverse learning needs should register at their local school. Through a referral process, a student’s diverse learning needs are identified and discussed in order to help determine how best to support that student. The child, once assessed, may then be assigned to another appropriate school.
