Update letter from Ms. Badour

Update from Ms. Badour during Covid...

Dear St. Bonaventure students,

My name is Ms. Badour and I am your school counselor again this year. I am here on days 1, 3 and 5. In time, I hope to get to know you all! I imagine many of you are aware what a school counsellor does. However, as a refresher, listed below are some of my roles and responsibilities:

  • Individual counselling
  • Small group counselling
  • Classroom guidance activities
  • School wide presentations
  • High school registration
  • Career counselling
  • Providing resources and referrals
  • And much more!

How do you connect with me? It’s simple!!! Should you need to talk about ANYTHING, please just drop by my office, stop me in the hallway or leave me a confidential note (slide it under my door).

Why see a counsellor? Students see counsellors for many reasons. Some come to talk about academics or careers, and others see me to discuss anxieties, depression, self-harm, suicide, friendship/relationship problems, bullying, and/or dating concerns. You might even want to see me with concerns about a friend or classmate. Whatever your reason, do not hesitate to connect with me.

What about confidentiality? Although most of what we talk about is private, there are some problems you might tell me about that we would have to talk about with other people. For example, if you are being seriously hurt or abused in some way, I will need to get you help and this will require that I share this information with others who can help. Also, if you tell me that you plan to seriously hurt yourself or someone else, I cannot keep that confidential. Lastly, if you tell me that you or your girlfriend is pregnant, your parents will need to know.

Some words of wisdom as you transition from your summer holidays and get back into a school routine…

Again, I look forward to meeting you all at some point throughout this school year. I wish you all a great year!
