Coordinating Teacher (CT)
Saint Francis High School is home to three distinct language programs; The Extended French program, The International Spanish Academy and the International Languages program where we offer French, Italian and Spanish courses.
Extended French: This program is a continuation of the French Immersion program started in Elementary or in Junior High school. Students will further develop their skills and knowledge in the French language by taking courses like Études sociales, French Language Arts and Mathématiques. Students who accumulate 30 credits in Extended French courses will receive a bilingual certificate from the Calgary Catholic School District at the end of their three years at Saint Francis. Students will also have the opportunity to experience the French culture by participating in various cultural activities and in our bi-annual trip to Europe.
International Spanish Academy: This program is a continuation of the K-9 Spanish Bilingual Program. Students will have the opportunity to continue to perfect their Spanish skills in the following classes; Lengua Española, Matemático 10C, Turismo 20. This program is not limited to academic courses but also exposes students to the Spanish culture.
International Languages: Students enrolled at Saint Francis have the opportunity to learn 3 other languages; Italian, Spanish or French. Italian and Spanish are offered to students with no prior experience or knowledge of the language. They are truly for beginners wanting to learn a new language. The French class is considered part of the 9 year program; this course is designed for students who took French as a second language at some point in Elementary or Junior High. These classes are filled with interesting activities, movie studies and field trips to better enhance the learning experience of the students.
