My name is Sheila Stacey, and I'm the new full time counselor at St. Isabella school I've been working for the Calgary Catholic School District for eleven years, and in a variety of capacities. Initially I began as a find arts specialist, but this eventually evolved into working on a Master of Counselling Psychology, to help expand an ability to support students. I've always held the belief that people can gain therapeutic gain through artistic expression, and I believe this particularly holds true for young people; naturally this has affected many of the counseling tools I use. However, I've also compiled many diverse resources, strategies, tips, and work closely with experts in education, wellness, and psychology, to assist students and families too. I have spent time with our staff to debrief and get a sense of the school dynamics and programming, some of which we will continue on this year. I'm excited to report, that we have a variety of excellent wellness initiatives and presentations planned for this year as well!
I invite all of St. Isabella students and families to make contact with me this fall, whenever it is convenient. Please know, a student does not need to be struggling, or to have special permission, to meet with the school counselor for personal or academic advice. Not only would an early meet or introduction to the counselor help me to better know the students at St. Isabella, but it may set your child up to quickly access support should a challenge arise during the year. Later in the school year, I will be working with grade nines in preparation for the high school selection and application process as well. Students can come to me directly for an appointment, or sign up with the appointment slip and box, outside the counseling office. I encourage all students to visit the counseling office to say "hello", if they feel comfortable doing so. I look forward to getting to know all of you, and supporting staff and students at St. Isabella. I can be reached at the school via phone at 403-500-2123 ext 2231 or via email at Sheila.email@example.com
