Honor with Distinction

In recognition of your academic excellence in achieving an average 90% or greater with no grade below 80%, with all work habits of 3 or 4. This is a cumulative award, with students being formally recognized at the end of the school year.

Students who meet the above criteria for a given term, will receive a certificate with their progress report.

In recognition of your academic excellence in achieving an average of 80% or greater with no grade below 70%, with all work habits of 3 or 4. This is a cumulative award, with students being formally recognized at the end of the school year.

Spirit of St. Joan Award

Presented to one student per grade level who exemplifies the school motto “Strength through Faith.” Regarding Faith, demonstrates Gospel values of kindness, empathy and honesty. Regarding strength, exemplifies perseverance in all aspects of school life and a solid work ethic.

Year End Recognition

Each year in June we celebrate the many successes and accomplishments of our JH students. Awards are presented in several different areas to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of students. The criteria for these awards are outlined in the attached document.

Subject Awards:

Presented to students based on Academic Achievement, Effort and Excellence for each grade level (7-9).

Art, Applied Technology (8 and 9), Band, Drama, Foods and Fashion (8 and 9), French, Health, Language Arts, Leadership (9), Math, Physical Education, Recreational Leadership, Religion, Science and Social.

Student of the Year:

This award is presented annually to an all-around student who exemplifies leadership, Catholic role model, active stewardship, academic excellence and extra-curricular involvement.

Spirit of St. Joan Award

Presented to one student per grade level who exemplifies the school motto “Strength through Faith.” Regarding Faith, demonstrates Gospel values of kindness, empathy and honesty. Regarding strength, exemplifies perseverance in all aspects of school life and a solid work ethic.

Grade 7, Grade 8 and Grade 9

Athletic Awards

These awards are chosen by the coaches of each sport in consultation with the PE department. They are awarded to make and female students in each grade level (7-9).

Cross Country, Volleyball, Wrestling, Basketball, Badminton, Flag Football, Glee Club, and Track and Field

Cavalier 5C Awards

Confidence:

The winner of this award consistently demonstrates athletics in a proper, balanced perspective. Works hard to perform up to their capabilities. Displays a positive mental attitude.

Courage:

The winner of the Courage award consistently demonstrates heart and spirit in the pursuit of doing the right thing. Displaying sportsmanship and fair play when dealing with opponents, officials, and teammates.

Character:

The award for character is given to the athlete that consistently demonstrates respect, honesty, loyalty, class, and integrity as a member of Cavalier athletics.

Commitment:

Is given to the student who consistently demonstrates the all- consuming pledge of oneself to Cavalier athletics. For displaying the desire and dedication to succeed.

Conviction:

For consistently demonstrating the belief that “anything worth doing is worth doing well.” Practicing hard and playing hard.

Ivan J. McManus Award

Awarded to a student for Overall Top Academic Average in Grade 9. This award is sponsored by the Alberta Teacher Association and is awarded at the end of the school year.
