Who was St. Kateri Tekakwitha ?
Kateri Tekakwitha was canonized as the first Native North American Saint on October 21, 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI. In Canada, her feast is celebrated on April 17. She is a symbol of the link between Catholicism and our Aboriginal brothers and sisters, the indigenous people of Canada. As a patron of ecology and the environment, Kateri teaches us how to love and respect the created world and care for it.
