Gr 7 Course Description

Students will be introduced to the basic dramatic skills and processes involved in creating and participating in theatre. Students will be given a foundation in ensemble, tableau, movement, mime, voice, improvisation and character work. Watch your self-confidence and acting skills grow while working in a fun, safe, and collaborative environment. During the course students will have the opportunity to see live theatre and interact with professional actors. Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to exhibit and reinforce their skills through group presentations, performances, reflection, script & performance analysis.

Gr 8 Course Description

Although Gr7 drama is not a prerequisite, in this class, students will build upon previously learned skills to portray more compelling characters and complex scenes. Students will continue to explore dramatic skills and processes involved in creating and participating in theatre. Students will deepen their foundation in ensemble, tableau, movement, mime, voice, improvisation and character work. They will understand and follow stage directions, and use proper techniques for body and voice control. During the course students will have the opportunity to see live theatre and interact with professional actors. Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to exhibit and reinforce their skills through individual and group presentations, performances, reflection, script & performance analysis.

Gr 9 Course Description

Although Gr7&8 drama are not a prerequisite, in this class, students will build upon previously learned skills to portray more compelling characters and complex scenes. Students will continue to explore dramatic skills and processes involved in creating and participating in theatre. Students will deepen their foundation in ensemble, tableau, movement, mime, voice, improvisation, collective creation and character work. Students will focus on realistic acting, commanding audience attention, and developing a stage presence. They will understand and follow stage directions, and use proper techniques for body and voice control. During the course students will have the opportunity to see live theatre, interact with professional actors and perform for the St. Martha community. Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to exhibit and reinforce their skills through individual and group presentations, performances, reflection script & performance analysis.
