Art 10 - 3 Credit

Art 10 – 3 credit is designed to give students an introduction to media skills, technique and the artistic process. Students will spend time developing their ideas in design, drawing, painting with possible exploration in the areas of photography and computer generated art. Developing an art vocabulary and evaluating art forms are components of this course. This five-credit ART 10 course is the preferred prerequisite for students continuing on to Art 20

Art 10 - 5 Credit

Art 10 – 5 credit is designed to give students a solid foundation in media skills and technique while introducing them to the artistic process. Students will spend time developing their ideas in design, drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media with some exploration in the areas of photography and computer generated art. Developing an art vocabulary and evaluating art forms are components of this course. This five-credit ART 10 course is the preferred prerequisite for students continuing on to Art 20.

Visual Arts 10 Honours - 5 Credit

Visual Arts 10 Honours – 5 credit prepares students for the 2 year International Baccalaureate Visual Arts program. While identical to the five-credit Art 10 course, students will be expected to complete an extra assignment outside of class time. The Visual Arts 10 Honours Supplementary Assignment will allow students to demonstrate their suitability for the Visual Arts IB program.

Art 20 - Credit

ART 20 – 5 credit offers students the opportunity to build experience and confidence in media skills and technique. There is a focus on creating an art portfolio and students examine the relationship between form and content as they develop their own artistic voice. Students will express ideas in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and mixed media. The student is expected to spend some time outside the normal school day working on various assignments.

Visual Arts 20 IB - 5 Credit

Visual Arts 20 IB – 5 credit is a good choice for students who are looking for extra challenge or preparation for post-secondary studies in art and art related fields. Students who choose this course must have completed Art 10 or Visual Arts 10H with a final mark of 80% or higher and must also have successfully completed the Visual Arts 10 Honours Supplementary Assignment. While similar to the Art 20 course students will be expected to work more independently. Students must also complete an extra assignment outside of class time. This Art 20 IB Supplementary Assignment will allow students to demonstrate their suitability for continuation in the Visual Arts IB program.

Art 30 - 5 Credit

ART 30 – 5 credit offers students the opportunity to explore areas of individual interests as they continue to develop their art portfolio. The focus is on creating personally relevant artworks, using a range of media and experimenting with a variety of art forms. The student is expected to spend some time outside the normal school day working on various assignments.

Visual Arts 30 IB - 5 Credit

Visual Arts 30 IB – 5 credit is a continuation of Visual Arts 20 IB. is a good choice for students who are looking for extra challenge or preparation for post-secondary studies in art and art related fields. Students who choose this course must have completed Visual Arts 20 with a final mark of 80% or higher and must also have successfully completed the Visual Arts 20 Supplementary Assignment. This course is similar to the Art 30 course but students will be given more freedom and more responsibility in the choice of media and art forms. Students must also complete an extra assignment outside of class time. This Art 30 IB Supplementary Assignment prepares students for the Visual Arts International Baccalaureate final exam.

Visual Arts 35 IB - 5 Credit

Visual Arts 35 IB – 5 credit is preparation for the Visual Arts International Baccalaureate final exam. Students will be involved in researching, analysing, evaluating, documenting, and writing about the artwork which they have created during their 2 year Visual Arts International Baccalaureate program and the artists and artworks that have influenced the student created works.
