Spanish Language and Culture

This course will enable the students to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes that they need to communicate in Spanish in a variety of school, travel, leisure and job related contexts. Spanish is increasingly the language of daily communication in many countries around the world.

Spanish 10

Spanish 10 is an introductory level course. No previous knowledge or study of Spanish is required. Students will be able to use a range of vocabulary words and expressions in familiar contexts such as entertainment, relationships, friends, clubs, activities, sports, hobbies, celebrations, and fashions and fads.

Spanish 20

Students will have the opportunity to solidify skills and knowledge learned previously and to build on these skills with more complex and creative language use. They will study the following areas of experience: fine arts, legends and myths, communications, technology, media, travel and current events.

Spanish 30

Students will have the opportunity to solidify previous skills and knowledge. By the end of this course, they should be able to communicate in Spanish within a variety of contexts including: literature, future plans, careers, accommodations, current issues, and history.

IB AB Initio Spanish

This course sequence is intended primarily for potential IB students who wish to take the full diploma but who have little or no instruction in Spanish. Students registered in this sequence will write the IB exams in Grade 12.

This course covers the regular Alberta curriculum as well as the IB curriculum.

Spanish 30 A (ab initio) IB

This course covers the regular Alberta curriculum as well as the IB curriculum.

Spanish 35A (ab initio) IB

Students write the IB exams in the second semester of Grade 12
