Writing for Academic Success

This course is available for all CCSD high school students who are in grades 11 or 12 with required prerequisites. Students earn 5 high school credits PSI 3082 Introductory Composition and 3 university credits English 1101 upcoming completion of this course. The course will take place in person at Bishop Carroll Tuesday and Thursday mornings in second semester, starting February 2023.

Program Benefits

This course prepares students for a post-secondary experience. It allows students to develop learning strategies and skills that will build confidence and support them in their transition to post-secondary education. Students will earn both post-secondary credits, and high school credits towards completion of an Alberta High School Diploma. The course is taught by experienced instructors and supports students in making meaningful connections in their related career pathways. Tuition fees will be paid by CSSD, so there is no cost to the student.

Course Description

English 1101 is a foundational, first-year university composition course, focusing on effective writing for academic purposes. Credit earned through successful completion of the course can be transferred towards graduation requirements at Mount Royal University and 11 other post-secondary institutions in Alberta including the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge, MacEwan University and Athabasca University.
